Dressing the Fire!

We moved into our house two years ago in January, and one of the things that drew us to it was the original cast iron firelpace in the lounge.

From then to now the room is unrecognisable and I’m absolutley thrilled with it!

We have painted the walls a stunning Farrow and Ball colour called Strong White and just had the carpet fitted in a super plush grey-blue that seems to change colour depending on the light.

So all that remained was for me to let loose and dress it all up!

I immediately set to gathering all the pretty blue and white items from around the house and opened up the gorgeous Branche D’Olive reed diffuser (Feather) that I have been saving especially for today.

As pretty as it looked, I wanted to take advantage of the empty (and sad looking) grate. We used to pop some candles in there and light them on a cold evening for a fire effect and I always thought it looked really pretty.

I popped down to Matalan to look for some cotton ball lighting / pretty candles / other inspiration for a sensible price and came home with a lovely little bundle of things:

I also spotted two little candles in pretty patterned tins which smelt scrummy (Scandinavia Log Fire and Vanilla Sugar) so they have been added to the hearth.

After a little bit of playing around I created a warm and cosy looking fireplace that I am absolutely thrilled with!

There are lots of these lovely goody bags in the shops at the moment that you can use to dress up your fireplace and the best thing about it is for just £5.00 you can change them with the season, I know I will be!

Here’s the finished result (which will be updated in December when I’m allowed to put up all my Christmas decorations)!
